What people want
- the ability to promote their markets and attract more traders and attention
- public verifiability that promotion has occurred
Solution: Let people pay to have their markets on the homepage!
Proposal
- A boost is implemented by adding a fixed amount to the boosted market’s importance score (and maybe setting a minimum score)
- this will ensure that the market is visible above the fold on Browse (and has greater prominence in the Explore feed and related markets)
- alternatively: boosts just cause markets to be listed first on Browse in the default view (Best, Open)
Each boosted market will have a blue diamond next to it
-
both on Browse and in the feed

-
Market tier badges are removed
-
[s] on second thought: we probably should indicate that markets have been boosted, but may not want it to be this prominent / distracting
- During the market creation flow, users have the option to boost their market for a fixed rate per day
- The initial boost rate will be something like $100 / day. We can increase this with demand. And build out a full auction mechanism later if this feature takes off.
- Important: boost costs are denominated in dollars.
- Advertising costs real money; we don’t want users to anchor to low amounts
- Users can still pay in mana, if they like
- Can require that markets have at least 10k mana in liquidity
- Add a pay-with-USD option using Stripe into the market creation flow
- Boosts are limited to 1-5 markets per day
- don’t want promoted content clogging up the site
- Any (public) market can be boosted
- we’ll add a Boost flow to the market page to let people boost outside of market creation
What success looks like
- Hedge funds & money managers pay tens of thousands per day to promote markets to help them research, test trade ideas
- Big tech firms pay to promote markets which ultimately aid recruiting
- Random individuals pay to promote markets on their niche interests
