Currently, free response markets accept individual answers to a question, but what if you have an idea that can improve upon someone else’s response? How can we reward people for suggesting an improvement to someone else’s answer?

Here’s an example. Lets say we have the following free response market and answers:

Question: What’s a good idea for a startup?

• Answer #1: Uber for puppies
• Answer #2: Uber for ice cream

Let’s say you are inspired by answer #2. You imagine that this might work by creating an app people can use to request ice cream truck drivers visit your neighborhood.

It would be nice to add comments to answers that you can get rewarded for:

Question: What’s a good idea for a startup?

• Answer #1: Uber for puppies
• Answer #2: Uber for ice cream
  • Comment #1: This could involve an app which requests ice cream truck drivers visit your neighborhood

Since all answers become free response markets you can imagine a cascade of comments which build on these ideas:

Question: What’s a good idea for a startup?

• Answer #1: Uber for puppies
  • Comment #1: Uber for cats
  • Comment #2: Uber for adult dogs
• Answer #2: Uber for ice cream
  • Comment #1: This could involve an app that requests ice cream truck drivers visit your neighborhood
    • Reply #1: Good idea, if enough people in an area request an ice cream truck, then it would be profitable to drive there
  • Comment #2: Uber for frozen yogurt
    • Reply #1: Frozen yogurt is harder to transport because it melts more easily
