An 30-40 person EA/AI safety community space — in SF

• Similar to Constellation, FAR Labs, or Lighthaven, but in SF
• Similar to the Commons, but more EA flavored

Why?

Constellation is great, but almost all work on AI actually takes place in SF, not Berkeley.

Many prominent AI safety folks are already in SF, including Dwarkesh Patel, Leopold Aschenbrenner, Tristan Hume, and of course many Anthropic and OpenAI employees.

We currently have 1-2 EA folks coworking out of the Manifold/Manifund offices in SF on any given day, and I've been running events like hackathons and meetups out of there, which draw 10-20 folks.

Beyond those already in the community, I'd like to get buy-in from others in the AI ecosystem (eg labs, tech startups, VCs, legislators), almost all of whom are based in SF -- it's much easier to ask folks to come to a happy hour in SF than to make a trip over to Berkeley.

Option 1: Barrel Head Brewery

• Barrel Head Brewery is an existing brewpub that might be well-suited for this

• Pros

  • Cheap: ~$15k/mo rent
  • Large: 7.7k sq ft
  • Good vibes: cozy, well-lit, furnished
  • Turnkey space

• Cons

  • Entirely open space, so possibly loud
  • Neighborhood kinda meh
  • Far from BART (tho: right next to bus stop)
