background
- Tested the iOS app on his iphone 13 pro
- 22 yo, uk based
- bsc in econ and finance
- He’s someone who used to go to my highschool who I thought might have a vague interest in this sort of thing so I reached out.
Knowledge of Manifold before starting (I’ve briefly mentioned it to him before):
- knows it offers a market for different questions, provides services for users to bet
- maybe scrolled Manifold’s twitter for 1min after seeing me retweet something from my personal twitter
- never used website before

Onboarding
- Weird white gaps at top and bottom of app (probably due to device)
- likes the initial popup - remind him of other finance/stocks apps
-
Page one
- Likes the colour scheme and layout
- next button seems misplaced, insufficient padding, not centred. Lot of white space around logo.

-
Page 2
- weird not capitalising title text
- video doesn’t auto play have to click to fullscreen. No audio, kinda weird, would expect it to be a gif.
- Now understands why next button is on the left (to accommodate previous button). It’s positioning still seems weird.
- [d] Question: What did u assume mana means?
- [j] I assume it’s some sort of token. Used to it from crypto. Either a crypto token itself or similar to an online game currency (buy with cash which you can then use to trade the token).
- Can see homepage a bit in the background… notices the daily profit. Expected that prominent Mana number to be balance. The most prominent mana number being daily profit makes it seem like the app wants to prioritise chasing profits/gambling (which from his understanding isn’t what the app is trying to do).

Choosing interests page
- Not sure what Destiny.gg is, first one after the broad pre-selected ones.
- Would choose things that are controversial
- Unsure why the topics at the top are the ones they are (destiny, EA) - seems very niche to silicon valley.
- Would expect alphabetical ordering OR popular, general topics at the top.
- would expect to see the more niche topics as you scroll further down.
- wtf is technical AI timelines doing so high up
- App is notable US and political heavy from the opening example question and what interest you groups.
- weird that background moves every time you select a new topic
- would expect it to do it after hitting the done button.
- [d] spam shows up as a group that could be selected lmfao. we might want to make it so the groups that have been blacklisted from the homepage by default don’t show up in the onboarding popup (with the exception of Destiny, which should show up in case the new user is from Destiny community).
-
no recommended limit. Would have expected minimum/maximum. Unsure how many topics he should be selecting.
-
“we’ve already selected x for you”, number just increases even though he is the one selecting them.
- Was expecting a bit more tutorial after choosing interesting groups.
- something saying what the tabs in the nav do.
- maybe fine if targeting people who are very familiar with these sorts of apps
