Austin’s idea: eat Substack

Pitch

Build an essay-hosting service like Substack, so that we can integrate Manifold markets inline.

• Directly pull content from Substack writers, and just embed markets on their behalf
• Allow users to send M$ to writers on Manifold (similar to Substack subscriptions)
  • Manifold could even pay the writers USD for the M$

Problems this solves for Manifold

• Getting writers to use prediction markets more often
• Increases prestige between Manifold
• Drives traffic to the writers
• Gets new audiences on board to predicting
• Makes M$ valuable

Tech musings

• Ideally, we could just embed our iframe into Substack. But Substack doesn’t support arbitrary iframe embeds
• How about Ghost? Some writers are already on it (Full Stack Economics; Bits About Money) and we could just target that case; Ghost is supposed to be more customizable relative to Substack
• How do we do easy auth?
  • Ideally, people can start play-betting even WITHOUT an account
  • But maybe we just need a one-click thing
    • Would want to persist auth; needing to log in each time would mean wayyy too much friction
  • How does auth interact with iframes?
