Iceboxed because we are just integrating with Substack directly
and we’ve since added a bunch of longform editing functionality
Austin’s idea: eat Substack
Pitch
Build an essay-hosting service like Substack, so that we can integrate Manifold markets inline.
- Directly pull content from Substack writers, and just embed markets on their behalf
- Allow users to send M$ to writers on Manifold (similar to Substack subscriptions)
- Manifold could even pay the writers USD for the M$
Problems this solves for Manifold
- Getting writers to use prediction markets more often
- Increases prestige between Manifold
- Drives traffic to the writers
- Gets new audiences on board to predicting
- Makes M$ valuable
Tech musings
- Ideally, we could just embed our iframe into Substack. But Substack doesn’t support arbitrary iframe embeds
- How about Ghost? Some writers are already on it (Full Stack Economics; Bits About Money) and we could just target that case; Ghost is supposed to be more customizable relative to Substack
- How do we do easy auth?
- Ideally, people can start play-betting even WITHOUT an account
- But maybe we just need a one-click thing
- Would want to persist auth; needing to log in each time would mean wayyy too much friction
- How does auth interact with iframes?
