Two main problems with new user retention:
- Not getting enough relevant markets and content tailored to their interests in front of them fast enough (James currently working on this afaik with improved feed recommendations).
- Too slow feedback loops, lack of sense of progress after trading on some markets which won’t resolve for a while.
This design doc will focus on solving point 2.
Goals
Check back throughout design we are accomplishing these.
- Make the app become part of a user's daily routine for the first week or two after discovering it.
- Must add value and improve the user experience, learning curve, and user satisfaction. Don’t want to build an addiction using gimmicky mechanics.
Brainstorm
- Unlocking new features gradually.
- Helps to feel you’re progressing as a user of an app even if you are still waiting for markets to resolve and your portfolio value hasn’t increased yet.
- Shouldn’t have to be waiting/doing stupid things for the sake of unlocking. Should unlock within a few days of naturally using the app.
- Helps introduce more complicated mechanics without being overwhelming. Upon unlocking new feature a perfect chance to surface a detailed explanation of how it works. Maybe even create videos?
- Example:
- New accounts start with access to all the main things. Eg. Market orders, creating markets, portfolio, comments, quests etc.
- Unlock limit orders after ?
- Unlock the calibration graph after eg. 5 markets you have bet on resolve.
- Unlock loans after your investment value > 1000
- Unlock Leagues after ?
