Goals
- Separate categorization from communities.
- Create a fun, competitive social experience that inspires viral sharing.
Step 1: Tags
- Groups no longer will be used for categorization
- Instead of adding of adding markets to the Politics group, you will tag it with the label “Politics”
- Tags are just strings.
- Anyone can tag a market.
- Only moderators/admins can create new tags (to cut back on tag spam)
- Filtering via tag on browse page
- We can look at the list of the top 200 markets to pre-populate a list of tags
- [iw] yeah tags should be a really low effort thing
- [J] Can you solve the problem of Destiny users removing valid tags or adding irrelevant ones like “Sex and love”
Step 2: Leagues
- Groups renamed to Private Leagues
- Consolidates functionality of private groups, guilds, communities.
- [A] Don’t think rebranding is necessary
- Tasks
- Show live activity feed as primary UI element on Leagues page
- [A] Most leagues won’t have that much activity? But do agree with not making “list of markets” the default view. Could be “list of posts/comments?”
- [S] By default, all activity should be surfaced in a league
- [J] Perhaps, but could remove the leaderboard. The compelling part is just what activity other people are doing?
- Activity Feed vs Leaderboard with Friends?
- [J] Leaderboard is only interesting on a subset of markets
- [c] think compete against friends can be fun … but better done as a section of /leaderboard that is people you follow
- [d] why not just live feed for followers
- [J] Think tournaments should be a sub-component, that leagues can opt in to
- It takes effort to find good, trustworthy, non-overlapping, covering markets — outsourced to others
- [S] Skeptical of curation effort
- New League creation flow
- Invite links & access control
- Leagues page (listing all your leagues as the main UI)
- Later tasks
- Private leagues + private markets
- League leaderboard (Guild use-case)

Q: Following vs Leagues together
