Convert your mana into real charitable donations!
How does it work?
- Manifold Markets is currently offering a special program to allow users to convert our play-money, mana, into charitable donations to incentivize both usage of our platform and charitable giving in general.
- Users can redeem M100 to send $1 USD to a 501c3 charity of their choice.
- Donations are capped at $10,000 per month, i.e. donations will be halted for the month if the total amount donated exceeds $10,000.
- Behind the scenes, our charitable arm, Manifold for Good (itself a 501c3 charity), will place a donation for the indicated amount on your behalf. Donations are sent around once each quarter.
- Unfortunately, your contributions will not be tax deductible.
- It is likely the mana redemption rate will change in the future. (We’ll try to notify users in advance if we do change it.)
- Disclaimer: Manifold Markets reserves the right to cancel its charity program at any time. Charitable disbursements are the sole discretion of Manifold for Good, which makes no guarantee of any particular donation. Mana is not redeemable for cash and has zero monetary value.
What are the donations backed by?
Manifold for Good has received grants totaling $500k from the Center for Effective Altruism (via the FTX Future Fund) to support our charitable endeavors. As of the time of this writing (January 5, 2023), every unit of mana was fully backed by corresponding charitable funding—but this may not be true in the future.
How long will the program last?
Unclear. As an early-stage startup that needs to be flexible, Manifold makes zero guarantees about the longevity of this program and reserves the right to end it at any moment.
That being said, we will do everything we can to communicate to our users what our plans are for the future and work with anyone who has participated in our platform with the expectation of being able to donate mana earnings.
Given that Manifold for Good has raised a significant amount of grant money, it is unlikely that the program will be halted before spending a substantial fraction of those funds.
