Mod powers
Here is an outline of all mod powers and how to use them.
- Ban user
- Mods should only use this for spam or temporary bans. If you think someone should be banned permanently that isn’t just spam, then message David.
- Self-promotion by a genuine user does not count as spam unless posted across unrelated markets or in large quantities. Most spam is quite obvious.
- If a user is problematic and breaking Community Guidelines issue a warning. If they continue to escalate then you should contact the Manifold team who will decide on how long a ban should be implemented. As a last resort, feel free to temporarily ban them if David isn’t available to look at it, but make this clear to the user.
- Hide comment
- This can be done by both the market creator and mods. Creators are allowed more discretion on how to use this. When using this as a mod on others’ markets, you should only use it on content that violates our Comment guidelines
- Change closing date
- You won’t usually use this unless you have unresolved a market and need to extend the closing time
- Occasionally you may want to use this to extend a market if the creator needs help/is inactive and they chose the default closing time upon creation which closed it too early.
- For Unrank, unsubsidise, or unlist please refer to Guidance for running a market
- Pin comments
- For when to use the following 4 tools please refer to Resolving/clarifying markets
- Change market description
- Change market title
- Unresolve a market
- Resolve a market
- Tagging markets
- Politics flag
- Mod note
- Block user
- This is NOT a mod power. Blocking a user is a general action that can be done by any user. Mods can block users who they don’t wish to interact with, however as a mod you should try to use this more sparingly and never as retaliation. As a mod you should expect pushback, and your immediate response should not be to just block them.
